Darling Buds Classic Car Show Raises £20,272 for Charity

Classic car enthusiasts came from near and far to attend the one-day, Darling Buds Classic Car Show held on Sunday 14th July. The popular annual event, now in its 18th year, took place at Buss Farm, film location for the Darling Buds of May TV series.

The show, held this year in aid of Kent Air Ambulance and Demelza Children’s Hospice, welcomed over a 1000 classic car exhibitors, 100 trade stands and over 7,000 visitors. With glorious weather on the day, organisers of the show were delighted with the turnout and reported a record year, raising £20,272 for the two charities.

The event featured vehicles from the 1940’s, 50’s, 60’s 70’s and 80’s, as well as a range of American, military and commercial classics.

Among the exhibitors was Tony Sobey, who displayed the famous 1926 Pop Larking, yellow Rolls Royce that appeared in the TV series. Tony, a huge fan of the tv series, bought the car 1992.

Visitors also had the opportunity to wander around the farm, take a picnic in the orchard and go on the Darling Buds self-tour which featured photos of the filming, cast and crew.

Throughout the day was a selection of performances and other attractions, which included the Woodchurch Morris Men, Birds of Prey flying display, Kent Air Ambulance helicopter landing, children’s rides and the Ashford Scouts car wash service.
